Andaman & Nicobar State Open Chess Selection Championship 2022 which began on 12-11-2022 at JNRM College Auditorium Port Blair concluded today successfully. The event was sponsored by Vignesh Electronics.
Shri. K. Biju Nair, Chief Editor (i/c), Govt Press and Shri Mandeep Grewal, President, Guru Ki Rasoi were the guests for the inaugural session of second day of playing today morning. They made the ceremonial first move on the top boards to kick start the second day games in presence of S Netazi, Observer, deputed from Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Port Blair.
Smit, Kavitha Uday Kumar, Chairperson, PBMC was the Chief guest for the closing ceremony while Raju, Proprietor, Vignesh Electronics, the sponsor for the event was the guest honour. They gave away the prizes to the winners.
Around 170 players have participated passionately in the two-day state level chess Championship which was held for 9 rounds in Swiss format in which D Shrestha Vijay, a class VI student of Carmel Sr. Secondary School Port Blair clinched the Championship Trophy & remained undefeated in the championship who scored 8.5 points with 8 wins and a draw in 9 rounds. P. S Satish, AAO, PFMS, PAO Port Blair secured second position and M A Dinakar, a class IX Students of Kamaraj English medium secured third position while AKS Srimannaryana, Commandant, Indian Coast Guard secured fourth position. They were awarded with Trophies, Cash Prize and Certificates.
These four players are eligible to represent Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the upcoming MPL 59th Senior National Chess Championship–2022 scheduled to be held from 22nd December 2022 to 3rd January 2023 at Indira Gandhi Sports Complex, Near ITO, New Delhi.
Apart from Open category, two best players each in boys and girls from Under 08, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 18 were also awarded with trophies and certificates.
Best Youngest Boy and Girl, Best women and Best Veteran Players were also awarded with Trophies and Certificates.
